My IRISpen Executive 7 Compatibilty with DVDR

Tom,

I have installed dvdreg to the new comp. I also installed My IRISpen Executive 7 for use with dvdreg and set to bar code. When scan is made while rapid entry is open 12 numbers appear in field but Microsoft Office window says "set scanner to 11 or 12 numerals  Any Ideas ?

Re: My IRISpen Executive 7 Compatibilty with DVDR

Jim,

I am not familiar with My IRIS Open, so I don’t really know what function it is performing.  My practice is to recommend a USB Bar Code Scanner. A USB bar code scanner appears to the PC as a 2nd keyboard.  No other software is needed other then the native USB Windows driver. As far as MS Office/Access is concerned, it can’t tell the difference between manually typed input from the keyboard or the automated input from the bar code scanner.

That being said, DVDR will accept either a 12 or 11 digit UPC code for a search.  The current release (1.23.13) will also accept a 13 digit UAN for a search.  UAN is the international version of UPC and is supposed to replace UPC in the USA eventually.  The 12th digit in a UPC bar code (13th in a UAN) is a check digit.  The initial 11 digits are normally unique and enough to identify the title, if it is in the catalog.

It is usually possible to program a bar code scanner to cause the Carriage Return character (aka Enter Key) to be sent at the end of the scan.  The carriage return will initiate a search, thus saving a little time.  You can also set a check box on the Rapid Entry Form for an automatic add to your catalog on a single match.

Re: My IRISpen Executive 7 Compatibilty with DVDR

Tom,

The IRISpen 7 Executive  is a handheld scanner. The issue is in the settings, specifically the pen started the entries with a space. The pen worked fine when in the separators section of the scanner program  I changed from space to line. Hope this may be of some help. Again I thank you.

Best Regards, Jim
